I enjoyed my batting most from lunch to tea. I was just waiting for the loose balls to attack and I availed of those opportunities. My partners (M Vijay and Rahul Dravid) and me decided not to take any risks because we had a task to perform.
All this business of scoring 300 did not come to my mind before reached 200. My job was to build a solid platform for India. And our primary job was to score 394 to surpass Sri Lanka's first innings total. After that, it was just consolidation.
Vijay (opening partner) played superbly. He deserved a century but unfortunately couldn't reach one. The wicket is still a good one to bat on, but it will deteriorate on Days Four and Five. That's why it is very important to pile on as many runs as possible on Day Three so that we don't have to bat here in the fourth innings.
Muttiah Muralitharan is a dangerous bowler. If you allow him to settle he will strangle you so I decided to counter-attack him.
