Windies star's devastating century helps Royal Challengers Bangalore crush Kings XI by 85 runs
Royal Challengers Bangalore won a lopsided contest against Kings XI Punjab, thanks to one of the fastest hundreds in the Indian Premier League by Chris Gayle at Chinnaswamy Stadium here yesterday. The crushing 85-run win, the biggest margin of victory (by runs) this season, saw Bangalore leapfrog to fourth place in the points table, and kept Adam Gilchrist's side at ninth.

Chasing 206, Ryan McLaren' knock of 28 salvaged some pride for Punjab, taking the total from 67-7 to 120-9.
Gilchrist's call to insert RCB seemed justified as his new ball bowlers generated lateral movement and bounce, but Gayle's murderous knock of 107 neutralised those factors.
Gayle, who struck his second hundred in four games, added 111 with Virat Kohli for the second-wicket in just 59 balls, after an opening stand of 43 with Tillakaratne Dilshan. AB de Villiers struck a few sixes towards the end to power Bangalore to 205-6.
It was vital for either of Punjab's best two batsmen this season - Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh - to match Gayle's effort - but that wasn't to be for the inaugural IPL runners-up. Valthaty threatened to, when he struck Zaheer Khan for three consecutive fours in the third over, but Man of the Match Gayle, removed him with an innocuous ball down the leg side, before returning to dismiss Dinesh Karthik LBW in the ninth.
The vivacious crowd moved to the groove of his celebratory jig when he cleaned up Piyush Chawla with a yorker in his next over. He finished with figures of 3-21 - becoming the only player in IPL history to score a century and take a three-wicket haul in a tie.
Earlier, in the space of eight months, Ryan Harris went from Australia's No 1 ODI bowler, to someone who received a mauling to remember from Gayle and Dilshan. He started out with a maiden over with some balls zipping off the surface, but in his next over, bowling back-of-a-length and straight, endured punishment from Gayle.
He conceded 21 runs and was immediately taken off. He returned only to be clobbered by de Villiers, but had the consolation of removing both de Villiers and Saurabh Tiwary off successive balls. McLaren finished with 3-38 after cleaning up Mohammad Kaif in the last over.
