Having lost the last two Tests and the series, the West Indians are keeping their fingers crossed on the fitness of their batting mainstay, Shivnarine Chanderpaul ahead of the third and final Test against India commencing at the Wankhede Stadium tomorrow.

The prolific middle-order batsman did not train with the team yesterday morning due to an injury in the calf muscle. "He has taken a break from practice today to rest his calf muscle which he strained in Kolkata. But he should be able to play in the Test here," West Indies media manager Philip Spooner, said.

The 37-year-old veteran has been very successful on India soil. He has amassed more than 2000 runs, including seven centuries in 23 Tests he played against India. The Guyana batsman seems to be in good nick in the current series too. In four innings, he has already hit a century.

The West Indies would hope the Guyanese recovers in time before the third Test. However, the other players had a lengthy practice session yesterday. Meanwhile, the Indians had an optional practice session yesterday. Maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who would be playing his ninth Test on his home ground, had a net session alongwith Zaheer Khan.

Zaheer, who injured himself during England tour, also looked to slug it out at the Wankhede nets. The Indian pace spearhead is likely to play for Mumbai against Orissa in their next Ranji Trophy game.
