IPL 2012 winners make CL T20 exit after rain ruins game against Perth

It's all over for KKR

Indian Premier League champions, Kolkata Knight Riders were knocked out of the Champions League Twenty20 as their match against Perth Scorchers was washed out in Kingsmead here yesterday.

Knight Riders lost two games on the trot and needed a win to remain in contention for a place in the knock out stage of the event.

In 14 overs of action, Perth scored 91 for 2 when the skies opened. Shaun Marsh scored an impressive 38 off 40 balls before he trapped leg before wicket by veteran Jacques Kallis. Herschelle Gibbs was the first to go when Aussie Brett Lee had him caught by Iqbal Abdullah in the covers for nought.

Simon Katich was unbeaten on 43 with Shaun’s brother Mitchell on five when the players went off the field. It can be recalled that the Knight Riders endured a highly forgettable 2009 IPL in South Africa. The team had Sourav Ganguly then and was coached by Australian John Buchanan
