For Virat Kohli, the promotion in batting order has been accompanied by a promotion to the top of the batting charts. The 22-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman, batting at No 3 against Pune Warriors on Friday, slammed a match-winning 67 to become the leading run-getter in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Kohli, the only player to be retained by RCB from last year's squad, now aggregates 291 runs, surpassing Mumbai Indians skipper Sachin Tendulkar who has 24 runs less. "I was keen to bat up the order in the last three IPLs, but I could get to bat only at five, six or seven.

This time I got the chance to bat at three and I am happy that I have been able to score runs," Kohli was quoted as saying by PTI. In the course of his innings, Kohli also completed 1000 runs in the IPL.

"I'm happy to don the orange cap. I would like to hold on to it for a while, but the competition is very tough as there are quality batsmen in the top five. Let me see how long I can hold on to it," said Kohli.
