Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman and commissioner and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president, Lalit Modi has withdrawn from contesting the Cricket Club of India (CCI) elections scheduled for December 18-19 in the city.

Modi stated in a letter to the club recently that he was withdrawing from the fray and is now supporting candidate Niraj Rungtau00a0 to earn a place on the committee.

Modi, in a letter dated December 10, to voting members says that, "Rungta is a mix of youth and vision, hailing from two generations of cricket administrators and cricket buffs."

When Modi had put in his nomination for the club's committee , he had confirmed that he was to contest the elections saying, "I would be contesting for a post on the committee.

In fact, Rajbhai (the late Raj Singh Dungarpur) always wanted me to contest the elections. If I am elected, I look forward to making a huge difference to the club."
