MCA elections: Having Pawar, Deshmukh is a win-win situation

Even as the Mumbai Cricket Association election campaign intensifies, one critical factor that has come to the fore is the fact that two political heavyweights have been elected unopposed to the managing committee's top positions.

Sharad Pawar has been elected as MCA President, while Vilasrao Deshmukh as its vice-president. So, irrespective of the election results, the MCA is likely to be in a win-win situation, provided if the two political godfathers leave their egos behind and work in tandem for the betterment of the sport in this cricket-crazy city.

In case of Pawar's absence due to multiple commitments, Deshmukh's political clout will come in handy for the MCA office bearers to get things moving. And considering that Pawar and Deshmukh, despite all their differences, have managed to work together in the state for eight years (99-2003 and 2004-07), that possibility doesn't sound unrealistic.

"If they leave their political egos aside, MCA will benefit a lot from these two well established leaders," said Shripad Halbe who is contesting from the Mahaddalkar group.
