MCA president Ravi Savant plans to request the state association which gets to host the second India vs West Indies Test in November to give Mumbai a chance to celebrate Sachin's 200th Test

Various cricket associations were quick to swing into action to host Sachin Tendulkar’s 200th Test after the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the home series against the West Indies after their Working Committee meeting on Sunday.

The record-breaking batting maestro is just two Tests away from scaling another incredible feat in his illustrious international career spanning over two decades.

Speculation was rife that Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium might be the venues for the WI series. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has already staked its claim of hosting the momentous Test match by virtue of having the maximum capacity (around 67,000).

Yesterday, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Ravi Savant, who is also the BCCI’s honorary treasurer, said they would try to get Tendulkar’s 200th Test to Wankhede.

“The excitement is quite natural. Tendulkar is an Indian first and then a Mumbaikar. So, every association would want to host his 200th Test at their respective ground.

“It is important to note that the itinerary is not yet finalised. We will wait for the venues to be declared first. If we (Mumbai) are not awarded his 200th Test match then we will request that particular association which gets to host that match to give us an opportunity to host it as this (Wankhede) is his home ground,” Savant told MiD DAY yesterday.

As per BCCI’s rotation policy, Mumbai is not scheduled to host a Test for at least another year. But reports emerged after the Working Committee meeting that Tendulkar’s 200th Test could be granted to Mumbai.

Savant quashed those reports: “Nobody has told me anything. I am not aware of any such thing.”u00a0Savant appeared miffed with media reports that said Tendulkar would retire after his 200th Test. “First of all, it is too premature to conclude that the 200th Test will be his last.

Let’s not jump to any conclusions. Has Tendulkar confirmed his availability for the West Indies series? There are a lot of factors that need to be considered. Tendulkar might play more than 200 Tests… who knows,” said Savant. BCCI robbed South Africa of a chance to host Tendulkar’s 200th Test by scheduling the West Indies series.

As per Cricket South Africa’s earlier itinerary, Tendulkar, in all probability, would have played his landmark Test at Newlands. India is now expected to propose a shortened series. The tour may even be scrapped. u00a0
