MS Dhoni justifies schedule goof-up

One would never know if it was an offshoot of the recent chill between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Indian team yesterday rescheduled a press conference and practice session here at the Feroz Shah Kotla without prior intimation to the media.

As per the daily advisory issued by the ICC, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was supposed to address the media at 9.45 am followed by the team's practice.

But the hundreds of media personnel, both national and international, were kept waiting for more than three hours even as there was no official word about the team's programme either from the ICC or the Indian team's media manager Ranjib Biswal.

The gap in communication between the team and the ICC was laid bare when the game's world governing body first issued a release saying that the practice session was cancelled, and later revised it by announcing that the skipper would meet the media in the afternoon at 4.30 pm, followed by the team's nets session.

Dhoni defended his team's late arrival at the ground.

"Coming to the ground at 10 am was too early. We didn't want to practice that early, the team preferred an evening session.

"That's why we postponed both the press conference and the practice session," he told reporters.

The Indian players are the most followed among the world cricketers and the BCCI the richest among the boards. Couldn't the media manager have informed the journalists about the change of plans in advance?
