After disbanding the Mahindra United football team citing the need to develop football at the grass root level, the Mahindra Group launched their first initiative in that direction yesterday in the form of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge-- an U-14 school football tournament-cum-talent hunt for which they have partnered with Scottish football giants, Celtic Football Club, who will train and develop young talent.

MYFC's first season kicks off next month in six cities-- Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Goa, Bangalore and Kerala with a minimum of 32 schools participating in each city.

Talking about the initiative Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director, Mahindra Group said, "In a bid to track and train talented players and help them make a career at an International level, we plan to select two to four promising players each season and give them an opportunity to train with football clubs abroad."

The six winning schools and their coaches will undergo a four-day camp under coaches from Scotland's Celtic Football Club.
