India's MC Mary Kom defeated Asian champion Kim Myong Sim 4-3 to win the gold in the 48 kg category at the ASBC Women's Boxing Asian Cup in Haikou, China.
Mary Kom had to work hard as her North Korean opponent put up a stiff challenge in the final. In the end though, it was the skill and experience of the five-time World champion that came through as she went on to clinch the issue.
It was Mary Kom's first victory of the year since the bronze medal winning performance at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year. The Manipuri boxer got the better of Filipino Kate Appari in the semi-finals.
