Akash Luthra was on top of the world not just because he scored his second consecutive century to give Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) an upper hand in the MSSA Giles Shield inter-school cricket final against Parle Tilak English medium yesterday.

Akash was delighted to know that he was selected for the Mumbai under-14 squad after his patient, four-hour knock of 101 runs.

'Great feeling'
"It's a great feeling. My aim was to get selected in the Mumbai team and I am very happy to fulfill it. What better time for the news to come than this," Akash told MiD DAY after helping Rizvi reach 451 on the penultimate day.

In reply, Parle Tilak were 187 for four with Abhishek Rajadhyakshya batting on 45.

Rishi Wadekar and Rutam Muley were the other two top-scorers with 50 and 45 runs respectively for the Parle side.

The 13-year-old left-arm all-rounder came to Mumbai six months ago from Delhi to live his cricketing dream.

"The whole idea to come here was to play competitive cricket. Mumbai is the hub and it has a rich cricketing history," said Luthra, who has taken 32 wickets in Giles Shield this season.

"Getting selected for Mumbai in my first year itself is a huge motivation for me. I now want to perform even better," he added.

Parle Tilak's Saurabh Bahutule, nephew of former India leggie Sairaj, did well to restrict Rizvi by grabbing four wickets for 54.
