Test matches are a rarity in women's cricket and hence it is not surprising that the Indian team is scheduled to play a four-day Test match against England after years at Wormsley, England from August 13 to 16.

Apart from the solitary Test, the team is scheduled to play three one-day internationals.

Speaking to the media at the pre departure press conference, captain Mithali Raj stressed on the need for more Test matches. "Test cricket is the ultimate challenge for any cricketer.

Test cricket really helps in producing high quality players for the country in all formats because adapting from Test cricket to one-day cricket is not very difficult.

Apart from England and Australia who participate in the women's Ashes, none of the teams play get Test exposure. Regular Test matches between the traditional rivals is a reason for their domination in world cricket.

Last Test
India last played a Test match in August 2006 against the same opposition at Taunton which the visitors won by five wickets. Only Mithali Raj, Karuna Jain and Jhulan Goswami of the current squad featured in that match.

"We have a young and an inexperienced squad but they have the ability to perform and adjust at Test level," said Mithali.

Asked about the preparation of the team, the captain informed: "We had a seven-day camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. We played a practice match against the boys team and the girls are doing well."
