Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets to finish third in the league stage of the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens here Sunday.

Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets to finish third in the league stage of the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens here Sunday.

Put in to bat, the Knights were 175/7 with Jacques Kallis top scoring (59 of 42 balls), while Yusuf Pathan got 36 and Manoj Tiwary 35.

For Mumbai Indians, Abu Nechim and James Franklin picked up two wickets each.

In reply, the Mumbai Indians scored 178/5, as James Frankling scored 45 of 23 balls.u00a0

Sachin Tendulkar (38) and Harbajan Singh (30) were the other principal scorers.

Mumbai needed 21 runs from the last six balls and it was Franklin hit four consecutive boundaries to Lakshmipathy Balaji and a single on the next ball.

With four runs required of the last ball, Balaji bowled a full toss to Ambati Rayudu (17 off 6 balls), who smashed the ball over the deep square-leg boundary to clinch the winning runs.

Among the KKR bowlers, Rajat Bhatia got three wickets.
