Australian Open tennis champion Novak Djokovic is confident of closing in on Roger Federer's World No 2 spot of the ATP World Tour.
The Serb clinched his second Grand Slam trophy by beating Britain's Andy Murray in Melbourne on Sunday and now trails Federer by 85 points, after picking up 2,920 points on the Grand Slam record holder. Djokovic beat the 16-time major champion from Switzerland in straight sets in the semi-finals in Australia.
"Hardcourt is my favourite surface. Two finals in US Open and two finals here. It's obvious, results are showing everything. But, still I feel I can do well at French Open and Wimbledon," said Djokovic.
Since losing in the Wimbledon semi-finals to Tomas Berdych last summer, the 23-year-old has reached the final of the US Open, when he ran into an in-form Nadal, helped Serbia win the Davis Cup and then started the new season with victory in Australia."Something clicked in my head after Wimbledon," Djokovic revealed.
"Things off the court were not working for me and it reflected on my tennis career.
"I don't want to stop here. Definitely I want to keep my body healthy, fit, and ready for some more challenges to come. I feel that I have a good game for all the surfaces. I have proven that in the past."
Meanwhile, top-ranked Rafael Nadal is 4,425 points ahead of Federer. The Spaniard lost in the quarter-finals in Melbourne to fellow countryman David Ferrer.
