Having hit the headlines with a record 153 KMPH delivery in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final - the fastest delivery ever clocked by an Indian - for Jharkhand this season, Varun knows that sheer pace alone won't get him a place in the Indian team. There are two more Ps to contend with - patience and perseverance.
Aaron has already suffered a couple of stress fractures in his back and even had an issue with a muscle in his right leg that saw him miss most of IPL-IV.
So, will he reduce that pace a bit and play cautiously given it's a lost cause for the Daredevils from here on as they have failed to make it to the playoffs? "No way," he shoots back. "We are professional cricketers and get paid to do our job. There is no way I'm going to reduce my pace for the remainder of the IPL. I will run in and bowl fast, that's where my strengths lie," assured Aaron, who can't wait to bowl today against the very team he made his IPL debut against - Kings XI Punjab. He finished that game with 4-0-36-1 but that all important one wicket was of Adam Gilchrist, who was going great guns at the time on 42 off 33 balls. Aaron knocked off the hard-hitting Gilchrist's stumps, something the Australian hasn't forgotten. "Yeah, he bowls pretty quick.
He's a great fast bowling find for India," said Gilchrist.
