England batsman Kevin Pietersen insisted he had no problem with being omitted from the Hampshire side that will feature in English cricket's domestic Twenty20 finals day at the county's Rose Bowl home.
This Saturday sees Hampshire up against Essex in the first semi-final of what has fast become one of English county cricket's showpiece occasions.
But although Pietersen has been one of four players made available by England coach Andy Flower for finals day, southern side Hampshire have decided they can do without him ufffd even though the South Africa-born batsman returned to form with an 80 in the recently concluded second Test against Pakistan.
Hampshire though have no qualms about sticking with the policy that saw them omit Pietersen from a 40-over match last month after he made it clear he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, ideally for a team based nearer his Chelsea home in south-west London.
"The decision remains consistent with the club's policy to stand by the players who have performed well in limited-overs cricket so far this season," a Hampshire statement said yesterday.
Pietersen, in a post on social networking side Twitter, said he had no issues with a decision.
"I fully understand Hampshire's position in not selecting me for finals day," he wrote.
"I wish them all the best on the day. I will be watching the lads!"
