Pollard aims to make cricket No.1 again in WI

Kieron Pollard, the hardest hitter of the cricket ball, is a rage back home owing to his exploits, and the mega bucks that come with it, in various Twenty20 competitions. Some former West Indies cricketers have said that almost every youngster in the Caribbean wants to emulate the Trinidadian.

Pollard, who came into the World Cup with the reputation of an under-performer at the international level, has already made an impact with two explosive half-centuries. Yesterday, he urged his teammates to win the coveted title to inspire a new generation of youngsters.

"It's important for us to do well so we can help in getting the youngsters in the Caribbean to love cricket again. This should be a stepping stone for us, and a way for us to test ourselves - to see if we have the talent to compete in the world and beat the top teams."

The West Indies are to play England tomorrow and India on Sunday - that's two big games in the space of five days ufffd here at Chepauk.
