Rizvi v Don Bosco match ends in thrilling draw

Vijit Poojari and Jashraj Matta's gritty stay at the crease during tense moments, coupled with good batting performances from Nilay Pawar (63) and Arjun Dani (58) helped Don Bosco (Matunga) draw a nail-biting contest against Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) in the Harris Shield (Elite) Super League game at Islam Gymkhana yesterday.

Rizvi declared on their overnight score of 363-8 and were awarded 40 extra runs as penalty because of slow over-rate by the Matunga outfit. Rizvi's revised score was 403-8.

In reply, Bosco lost the wicket of Tanish Hirlekar and Kevin Keshvan before Arjun and Nilay stitched a 85-run stand for the third wicket. Vijit and Jashraj held their nerve towards the latter end, using defensive tactics with Rizvi needing just one wicket to win on virtue of first innings lead with 12 minutes remaining. The Matunga team ended the day at 224-9.

Hat-trick for Mansoori
At MIG CC, left-arm spinner Saud Mansoori claimed 13 wickets (6-21 and 7-50), which included a hat-trick to help Al-Barkaat beat Swami Vivekanand by an innings and 40 runs.
