They showed a lot of character. I think, Malinga played the innings of his life," Harbhajan said.
The captain though rued the absence of three key players. "We were without three key players in Sachin, Rohit and Munaf, but we fought hard and it is great to beat a champion side like Chennai Super Kings."
Mumbai Indians overhauled CSK's total of 158 for three by scoring 159 for seven in 19.5 overs to script a thrilling win.
After winning the match, Mumbai Indians' stand-in skipper Harbhajan felt that Tendulkar's presence in the dressing room helped them go for the kill. "It is nice to have Sachin around even if he is not playing.
It is a great sign because he is a great player and great motivator. To have him in the dressing room obviously motivates the players and he has got the knowledge to pass on," Harbhajan said after the three-wicket victory.
"He was sending messages from the dressing room whenever it required. He was happy with the result," he added. Tendulkar is out of action due to a toe injury he suffered during India's recent tour of England.
Harbhajan was all praise for his team for showing character and not wilting under pressure. "I think this win will set the tone for us for the rest of the tournament," the Turbunator said.
