Dhaka: Shivlal Yadav, the interim chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) feels he will be able to forge a successful partnership with the IPL’s stand-in chief Sunil Gavaskar. He told mid-day from Hyderabad: “Gavaskar se jodi jam jayegi (Our partnership will thrive).”

Yadav feels there is some invisible connection with Gavaskar and him as far as various milestones in their careers are concerned. “Gavaskar got to his 10,000 runs in the same Test in which I completed 100 wickets. Because his feat was so massive, there was little buzz around my milestone,” recalled Yadav.
He added: “When I retired after the 1986 Test at Bangalore against Pakistan, people did not notice that because Gavaskar scored 96 on a turning track. Many fans believe it is his best Test knock ever. Ultimately it turned out to be his last Test innings too!”
The coincidence does not end there as Yadav pointed out. “When he became the National Cricket Academy chief, I was the director there. And now when he is heading IPL this season, I have become interim president of BCCI. There are these coincidences, that’s why I feel, our pair will enjoy great success.”
