Silva added 108 runs for the opening wicket with Dimuth Karunaratne (50). Pacer Steven Finn bagged the lone Sri Lankan wicket.
Earlier, England were dismissed for 416 in their first innings. Jonny Bairstow remained unbeaten on 167 after last man James Anderson fell for four. Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath led SL’s attack 4-81.
