Sir Alex Ferguson will celebrate his 70th birthday on New Year's Eve with a wish to see Manchester United at the top of the English Premier League table.

United will host Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on January 1 and have a strong possibility of becoming league leaders on New Year's Day since present day leaders Manchester City are going to play a day later, The Sun reports.

Ferguson admitted he will be happy if United are at the top of the league table on New Year's Eve "It's a long season. If we''re top of the league or joint top with City on New Year's Day I'll be happy," said Ferguson Manchester United leveled points with league leaders Manchester City after they comprehensively beat Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford while City dropped two points after drawing away against West Brom at Hawthorns.

Manchester United won 5-0 with the help of a Dimitar Berbatov hat trick and goals from Ji Sung Park and Antonio Valencia while no goal was scored in City's game against West Brom.

United has now scored ten goals in their last two matches and they now trail Manchester City only on goal difference with both teams accumulating 45 points each They also hold the joint best defensive record this season along with Liverpool, conceding only 14 goals in eighteen Premier league matches.
