Cricket legend Sir Garry Sobers has said that Sachin Tendulkar rightly deserves the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2010 award named in his honour.
Tendulkar clinched the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy in Bangalore on Wednesday. "My congratulations to Sachin.
He rightly deserves it. He's a great player," said Sobers over the phone from Barbados.
The name of Sobers cropped up along with Bradman in Tendulkar's reaction to the award. "Two of my cricketing heroes are Sunil Gavaskar and Vivian Richards and I've seen both of them play. But I've never seen Sir Garfield Sobers or Sir Donald Bradman play live. That's something I would have loved to do," Tendulkar told NDTV.
And 74-year-old Sobers said, while signing off: "I have met Sachin several times and would love to meet him again and again."
