N Sirinivasan, secretary to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), told reporters the tour would take place between the end of January and early February.
The tour itinerary is to be issued in the next two days, he said.
Sri Lankan Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge said the Indian tour would not clash with Sri Lanka's tour of Pakistan.
Sri Lanka opted to tour Pakistan after India withdrew in the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks in late November.
