Former India cricket skipper Sunil Gavaskar will be receiving the Maharashtrachi shaan (pride of Maharashtra) award for his achievements in cricket at Sydney today.

He is accompanied by wife Marshneil. The award, also known as MAAI (Marathi Achievement and Award International) has also been won by singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
Gavaskar scored 10,122 and 3,092 runs in 125 Tests and 108 ODIs respectively. He made three Test tours to Australia (1977-78, 1980-81 and 1985-86). In 1985, he led India to a win in the World Championship of Cricket.
