Super-sub Yuzvendra Chahal set a new record during the T20I against Aus

India's talented spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had a brilliant show at the second Twenty20 International between India and Australia in Sydney on Sunday, December 6. Chahal went on to become the joint-holder of a record in T20Is for his nation.


The 30-year-old spinner dismissed star Aussie batsman Steve Smith. Chahal went on to become the joint highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is alongside Jasprit Bumrah with 59 wickets each in the shortest format of the game. Chahal achieved this feat in 44 matches.


Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga leads the list at the top with most T20I wickets (107) and is the only bowler to take over 100 wickets. Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan round the top three in the list of leading wicket-takers in Twenty20 Internationals.

  • Shahid Afridi - 98 wickets
  • Shakib Al Hasan - 92 wickets
  • Rashid Khan - 89 wickets
  • Umar Gul - 85 wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was previously not supposed to be part of the India line-up. However, after all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a concussion after being struck by a bouncer delivery from Mitchell Starc during India's innings, Chahal was taken in as his replacement for the rest of the game.

India chased down a total of 195 runs set by Australia and won the game by 6 wickets. Opener Shikhar Dhawan steadied the innings with a composed 52 runs before skipper Virat Kohli scored a vital 40 runs and fiery batsman Hardik Pandya scored a quick 42 runs in 22 balls with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes in the final over to help India win the game and the three-match series 2-0.

India will play Australia in the third and final T20I match on December 8 at Sydney.
