The monsoons afford young cricketers a good opportunity to train indoors. That's what Mumbai fast bowlers from the under-14 age group to first-class cricket are doing at the Bandra Kurla Complex under the supervision of former India paceman T A Sekar and fitness trainer Ramji Srinivasan Sekar did wonders for India's fast bowling scene during his stint with the MRF Pace Foundation before joining the support staff of Delhi Daredevils last year. "Mumbai has always produced bowlers who can swing the ball and not many men with sheer pace.

Pace bowling requires the right fitness and physical training," the Chennai-based coach said.

The camp under the Mumbai Cricket Association banner has attracted 45 bowlers from various age groups.

"There is great talent here and we want to provide the right kind of training," said Sekar who has had a good influence on Zaheer Khan, India's most successful fast bowler in recent years. "All these guys have fine bowling actions but their running technique is not right. A good run-up is half the problem solved," he said. MCA vice-president Dilip Vengsarkar was present to watch Sekar, his teammate on India's 1982-83 tour to Pakistan, go about his job.
