Sachin Tendulkar has left a trail of admirers wherever he has played. Three young Kolkata cricketers joined the long list yesterday. Subhrajoyti Sengupta, Sunil Sarkar and Sujay Bhagat, all in the 15-16 age group, were the proud recipients of Tendulkar's batting gloves.
On the instructions of Tendulkar, the gloves had been passed on to the youngsters by local masseur Pinto Basak, who helps the Indian players when they play at the Eden Gardens.
It was during the India versus Sri Lanka one-day game at Eden Gardens in December 2009, that the Indian champ had entrusted Pinto the responsibility of delivering the gloves to talented local youngsters, who were not in a position to afford cricket equipment.
'I wanted to give the gloves to the most deserving players. I did not know how to identify them so I handed over the three pairs to Graymind Communications Sports Programme.
They chose the three players from various cricket academies and delivered it to them. I am happy that I have been able to carry out the responsibility entrusted to me by Tendulkar," said Pinto.
"Even in our wildest dreams we never dreamt that we would play with Tendulkar's gloves. We are very excited," said the three youngsters.
