After signing for a huge 50 million pound sum on Monday, the Spanish striker will be set to make his debut for the London club in the weekend's big game, but due to the respect he has for the Liverpool fans that adored him at Anfield, Chelsea's new No 9 has claimed that he will remain modest in the event of scoring a goal for his new employers.

Won't celebrate
At a press conference on Friday, Torres was asked if he would celebrate scoring: "First I will have to play, after that I have to score, so some things have to happen, but I have big, big respect for the Liverpool fans, so I don't think so."

Liverpool's former record signing made it clear that he felt like part of a family at Anfield and understands that it may not be easy for the club's supporters to understand his move.

He added: "I only have good things to say about the Liverpool people, the Liverpool supporters especially.

"I can't say anything bad about them, I had three-and-a-half fantastic seasons there and I will never say anything bad about no-one at that club.

"I understand they will be angry, they will not understand my decision, but I'm sure in a few days, a few weeks, maybe I will not explain all the reasons, but I would like to start talking about the future now, so thanks to them, thanks very much.

"I am not asking them to understand me but I'm sure in time they will see what I did there, and they will be fair or they will be thinking a different way than they are thinking now.

"Football is like this and this is life, from one day to the other the people can love you or hate you, but I am sure the majority of Liverpool fans are not thinking the worst."

The bid for Torres from Chelsea came as a surprise for most people and the player's willingness to leave Liverpool for a rival team even more so, but the World Cup winner claims that he already had his mind made up before the offer came in.

"As soon as I knew that Liverpool and Chelsea were talking about that, I told them the decision was made and I would like tou00a0 talk seriously about the possibility and I was the first one to go to the manager and say I wanted to leave, and that is the truth," he said.

On playing against his old club, he commented: "It's going to be a strange situation for me. I was training with them one week back."

Big fan
The Spaniard has now entered a new chapter of his career by joining Chelsea. "For me it is a big challenge, I'm a big fan of Anelka and Drogba, when we played against Chelsea we were always worried about both of them. So, I'm excited now at the possibility of playing aside them," he said.
