Englishman becomes leading run-getter of 2011 World Cup
There's no stopping England run-machine Jonathan Trott. On Saturday, Trott, with 422 runs in seven games, surpassed Sachin Tendulkar as the leading run-getter of the World Cup, adding another feather to his boundless tally of runs in the last twelve months - in both Tests and ODIs.u00a0
In 25 ODIs, Trott has amassed 1280 runs at an incredible average of 55.65. In 18 Tests, Trott has 1600 runs at 61.53 runs per innings. Earlier this year, Trott equalled Sir Vivian Richards' world record of reaching 1000 ODIs runs in just 21 innings.
Is he the most consistent batsman in world cricket today? "Definitely, right up there," former England captain Michael Vaughan told MiD DAY. "The thing about Trott is that he gets into a shell. I've rarely seen a batsman with such an appetite for runs. Once he gets set, even the best attacks in the world would struggle to get past him," he added.
Despite Trott's exploits, the South African-born batsman has faced the wrath of the English media for batting too slowly at times. "I am not sure why my batting attracts criticism. People are entitled to their own judgment, as long as I'm being effective, nothing else matters," Trott said recently.
Vaughan feels Trott's role is that of the sheet anchor. "He plays his role to perfection, he's the pillar around which England's batting is revolving. For him to follow his performance in the Ashes with this has been an incredible feat," said Vaughan.
It's official. Trott is the Great Wall of English Cricket.
