"Every cricketer looks forward for this award and I am no different," Wadekar told MiD DAY on the sidelines of the launch of the Eknath Solkar Foundation and fielding academy.
"I am very happy that the Board has chosen me for this award. This is perfect timing because it coincides with the launch of my very dear teammate and friend Ekki's fielding academy. He was my favourite cricketer.
"I am getting this award because of all my teammates who helped me become a better captain and cricketer.
Their support was immense. So, this award is to all my teammates, who helped the team achieve historical results," added the 70-year-old, who captained India to historic series wins in West Indies and England in 1971.
