We will bat well against the old ball: Amit Mishra

India have already lost three wickets for 53 in their chase of 257 and face an uphill task on a turning wicket on the fifth and final day against Sri Lanka today.

But Amit Mishra, who picked up three wickets yesterday, believes India have what it takes to get the runs and level the series.

"I feel we still have a lot of batting to come. The experienced players in our side are performing. We have confidence that we will win the match," said Mishra.

The Haryana leg-spinner opted to take heart from the partnership between Thilan Samaraweera and Number 10 Ajantha Mendis. The duo put on 118 with Samaraweera scoring 83 and Mendis hitting his way to a Test-best 78 after India dismissed the Lankan middle order in the first session. Sri Lanka were 87 for 7 and then 125 for eight and it had looked then that India would canter to a victory.

"Early on it is difficult. But once a batsman is set, it is easy to play. Since it is a new ball there is some pressure on us. But once the ball gets older then it becomes good for batting. Everybody knows that when the new ball loses its shine and the wicket is slow, it's good for batting," signed off the leg-spinner.
