The cricketing world was Thursday abuzz with prayers and best wishes on Twitter for New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder, who was assaulted outside a bar at Christchurch and is now in coma

"Four men" attacked Ryder as he left Aikman's Bar in Merivale shortly after midnight (around 12.30 a.m. local) early Thursday after having "a few drinks" with Wellington Firebirds teammates, The New Zealand Herald reported.u00a0
The "brutal assault" has left Ryder in an induced coma with a fractured skull and multiple injuries.u00a0

The New Zealand team's official Twitter page said: "The whole NZC team's thoughts are with (Jesse) this morning."
