Indian cricketer Deepak Chahar had put on a stellar show in the third and final ODI against South Africa, but went in vain as India lost the match and the series 0-3.

The all-rounder, who was added to the playing XI for the third ODI against the Proteas scored 54 runs off just 34 balls.

Deepak Chahar's fiance Jaya Bhardwaj shared an emotional and lengthy post on Instagram for her partner, telling him how proud she was of his achievement.

Along with a few photos from Chahar's knock, Jaya wrote, "I have seen you wake up every morning for practice and go for every single game with the same hunger to perform and give your best for your country as I saw yesterday in the game."

She added,"Days are hard when you are playing and harder when you are not but the hard-work, dedication, passion and enthusiasm you show on and off field for this game is what truly makes you a champion. A sport as competitive as cricket, sometimes you win the game and sometimes not but your effort has made the whole country proud. You have shown that you are ready to win the toughest of battles for your country and your team... proud of you.. Jai hind 🙏🏻"

With a target of 288, India seemed on track at 116/1 but SA then took quick wickets as the visitors were stranded at 156/4. Chahar came on in the 40th over and wasted no time in his counter attack. However, a mistime to Lungi Ngidi's delivery caused a major upset as he was dismissed. India were then bowled out with 4 runs short of their target.
