Former India captain Chandu Borde was saddened by the fact that the Indian cricket board decided to drop the Deodhar Trophy for the 2009-10u00a0 Season due to a packed schedule but felt such decisions had to be taken to keep cricketers fresh. The decision was taken at the BCCI's Tour Programmes and Fixtures Committee which met in Mumbai yesterday.

"Though the Deodhar Trophy was an important tournament, you cannot escape the fact that there is excessive cricket being played. You just had a case of players being unfit for an important tournament (World T20) so such measures are understandable," said Borde from Pune where Prof Deodhar hailed. "This was bound to happen because excessive cricket is having a toll on the players."

Borde's last association with an Indian team was two seasons ago when he accompanied the Indian team under Rahul Dravid for their tour to Ireland and England. Dravid's men went on to win a Test series in England after 21 years.
