The BCCI on Friday provided a major boost to the differently-abled cricket community, bringing them under its umbrella.

The BCCI Apex Council has decided to recognise the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) as the only body to promote cricket among physically challenged, deaf, blind and wheelchair participants.

However, as far as providing BCCI’s affiliation is concerned, no decision has been taken yet. “Providing affiliation is a tricky one because there is no provision as such in the BCCI constitution to affiliate the differently-abled body. But since they have come under one umbrella, they will be provided with whatever assistance we can. We need clarity on how we should approach differently-abled cricket since as they come under the sports ministry.

“However, we have unanimously decided to support them. We need to understand what all support they want from us as far as infrastructure, financials etc are concerned. We need to work on that and see how best the BCCI can support them,” a top BCCI official told mid-day.

Meanwhile, it is understood that this time too the women’s T20 challenge will be a three-team affair.

As far as BCCI’s stand on participating in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics is concerned, it is understood that the National Sports Code is a hindrance in the Indian cricket board giving its final nod.
