Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar was elected as the Indian Cricketers’ Association’s (ICA) male representative in the BCCI Apex Council on Saturday.

Vengsarkar garnered 402 votes, while ex-India batsman and outgoing ICA president Ashok Malhotra got 230 votes during e-voting, done between October 27 and 29.

“I will try to work towards better coordination between BCCI and the ICA. I have a good amount of experience as a cricket administrator which will definitely help.

Whatever problems ICA are facing, I will give them priority and take them to the BCCI to solve,” Vengsarkar told Sunday mid-day.

Meanwhile, former India opener Anshuman Gaekwad was elected unopposed as the ICA president. Hitesh Majmudar will be new secretary. He beat ex-India cricketer Suru Nayak.

Vengsarkar, who represented the country in 116 Tests and 129 ODIs, was expecting a clean sweep against Malhotra. He said: “When I spoke with ex-cricketers and voters, they were very happy and excited that I will be contesting the ICA elections. I was expecting the same result.

“Anshu and I are very old friends. We played together right from our inter-university days. I am looking forward to working with him.”

Former Indian women’s team captain Shubhangi Kulkarni was elected unopposed as the female ICA member in the Apex Council.
