The Decision Review System came under scrutiny once again yesterday when Australian umpire Rod Tucker's 'not out' ruling against Ireland's Alex Cusack was overturned by the third umpire despite the batsman being struck on the pads more 2.5m from the stumps. Tucker turned down Yuvraj Singh's LBW appeal against Cusack in the 44th over of the Irish innings, prompting a challenge by the Indians. Replays showed that Cusack was well down the track and the impact would have been more than 2.5 metres from the stumps while according to HawkEye, the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. But much to everyone's surprise, TV umpire Marais Erasmus upheld the Indian challenge. Yuvraj later said the DRS rules had been amended. "The 2.5 m rule was applicable in the last match against England but it has been altered now. If the ball hits (the pads) in line, it is out," he said. During India's game against England, Ian Bell survived a leg-before appeal and the Indians' challenge was turned down as the impact was 2.5m from the stumps.
