In order to pay homage to Pele, who passed away last year on December 29, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) put together a laser show on the football legend. According to the organisers, the CAB procured relevant footage of Pele during his September 1977 visit, in the nick of time.

Initially, the show was planned during the dinner break, but there was sunlight when the Sri Lankan innings ended was finished after 39.4 overs so it was decided to have it at the conclusion of the match.

Spectators at the Eden Gardens were thrilled when they found out that a special show would be held in Pele’s honour.

Meanwhile, Kolkata-based former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had kept track of Prithvi Shaw’s triple hundred for Mumbai against Assam and said that the youngster’s chance for an India comeback will come and so will Ishan Kishan’s opportunity to be a regular in the Indian team. The talented batsman couldn’t find a place in the playing XI for the ODI games against Sri Lanka. “I shouldn’t make any comment on that. The team management takes these calls, they are running the team. India are playing good cricket, no worries,” exclaimed Ganguly.

Ganguly, who is now Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, said that Australian batsman David Warner could get the job as skipper of Delhi Capitals with Rishabh Pant being ruled out due to a road accident.

“It was a very severe [accident], but hopefully he will recover gradually. Rishabh is only 25. A lot of cricket is still left in him. Of course, he won’t be able to play the IPL this year. We [Delhi Capitals] will soon announce a new captain. David Warner with so much experience could be given the job. The hole that he [Rishabh] has left as a batsman will be tough to fill. But we have Sarfaraz [Khan], Manish Pandey and Axar Patel as back-ups for his role,” Ganguly said.
