Rio de Janeiro: Wayne Rooney has apologised to the England fans following their humiliating exit from the World Cup. Italy's 1-0 loss to Costa Rica on Friday confirmed England's exit.

Rooney posted on his Facebook page: "Absolutely devastated to be out of the World Cup. Going into each game we had great belief in ourselves but unfortunately it hasn't worked out.
