Yashasvi Jaiswal made a fairytale debut, scoring a big daddy hundred and earning the Player of the Match award. The Mumbaikar scored a patient 171 off 387 balls in the opening Test vs West Indies at Windsor Park, Roseau. The knock made him India’s 17th centurion on Test debut. His record 229-run partnership — the highest opening stand for India outside Asia — with then skipper Rohit Sharma powered the visitors to a massive innings-and-141-run victory.
On challenging spin-friendly conditions in Visakhapatnam, where the other India batters failed to go beyond 34 in the first innings, Jaiswal stood firm, scoring his second century and a maiden double ton — 209 off 290 balls — to help India post 396 in the second Test against England. His 423-minute marathon knock, laced with 19 fours and seven sixes, guided the hosts to a 106-run victory to level the five-match series 1-1.
