India ended the second day's play at 311/1, taking a 74-run first innings lead in the second cricket Test match against Australia here at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Sunday
After India lost opener Virender Sehwag (6) in the fifth over of the day, Murali Vijay (129 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara (162 not out) struck a 294-run partnership before play was called off for the day.
About 30,000 spectators were present to cheer the Indian batsmen on the second day, which was completely dominated by the hosts. Unmindful of the scorching sun, the fans cheered every hit to the boundary.
The splendid centuries by Murali Vijay and Cheteswar Pujara provided the entertainment for the holiday crowd, who enjoyed some hard hitting by the new heroes of Indian cricket.
