Rajasthan Royals’ Jaydev Unadkat heaped praise on his batting partner Chris Morris, who helped the team get over the line against Delhi Capitals in a low-scoring encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

With 34 needed off the last three overs and just three wickets in hand, Morris hammered four sixes—two each of Delhi pacers Kagiso Rabada and Tom Curran—as RR overhauled DC’s total of 147-8 with two balls to spare. Morris was unbeaten on 36 off 18 balls while Unadkat was 11 off seven.

“When you’re in that pressure situation [last three overs], you can lose your mind and start thinking ahead of the ball. So, we were both constantly talking to each other, telling one another to watch the ball and go for it. He [Morris] couldn’t middle the first few balls.

“I kept telling him that it’s just about getting one hit as the ball was coming on to the bat nicely. The way he was swinging it, we were confident that we were only a couple of hits away. It was some amazing hitting by Morris. The sixes that he hit off Kagiso [Rabada] were probably some of the best shots today [Thursday],” Unadkat said at the post-match virtual press conference on Thursday night.

Left-arm pacer Unadkat (3-15), who earlier played a vital role in restricting DC on 147-8, remained not out on 11 off seven balls while South African Morris—the costliest player of the IPL-14 (Rs 16.25 crore)—was an unbeaten on 36 off just 18 balls.

Interestingly, Unadkat—Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy-winning captain—was not in RR’s playing XI for their opening game against Punjab Kings but proved his worth here by dismissing DC’s top three—Prithvi Shaw (2), Shikhar Dhawan (9) and Ajinkya Rahane (8).
