IPL 2021 suspended after increase in COVID-19 cases

This announcement has come in the light of recent COVID-19 positive cases among IPL players and staff within the bio-bubble.

The  Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Rajeev Shukla, recently revealed to news agency ANI that the IPL 2021 season has been suspended. ANI shared an update on their official handle on Twitter.





Speaking to ANI, Shukla said, "IPL has been suspended. It is not cancelled, we will see when we can reschedule it, it is not cancelled. Just rescheduled for now."

This announcement has come in the light of recent COVID-19 positive cases among IPL players and staff within the bio-bubble. Kolkata Knight Rider players Sandeep Warrior and Varun Chakravarthy were the first to test positive. Later on Lakshmipathy Balaji from camp Chennai Super Kings also tested positive which led to the rescheduling of CSK vs RR match in New Delhi on Wednesday.

In the latest development, Sunrisers Hyderabad player Wriddhiman Saha has tested positive ahead of SRH's clash against Mumbai Indians today.
