Karate kids return with rich haul of medals

Thirty students from Mumbai who participated in the recent Commonwealth Karate championship World Gojukai Karate-Do championship held in South Africa recently returned home with a stunning 53 medals in various categories.

Thirty students from Mumbai who participated in the recent Commonwealth Karate championship World Gojukai Karate-Do championship held in South Africa recently returned home with a stunning 53 medals in various categories.

"This is a great achievement by my students which has never happened before. They have certainly made me proud." Vispy Kapadia a India's senior karate exponent said at a function held to facilitate the karate champs yesterday. Much attention was drawn to little Toyesha Y Khatau, who was crowned the world champion after she won a gold medal in the Kata. "I never dreamt of winning this title at such a young age. I feel great having made my country proud," said Toyesha a student of John Cannon and Cathedral which which had 19 medals to their credit.

"She is a very good student and has excellent concentration. She has defeated students from Australia, Iran and China which is next to impossible," Kapadia said.
