Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin will back any sort of move to increase fees for domestic players. “Yes, why not,” he told mid-day on Sunday when asked whether he would support a move to enhance fees of the players, who are expecting to be compensated for the games they missed out on playing due to the COVID-19 situation.

Hyderabad Cricket Association president Azharuddin is part of a working group appointed by the BCCI on Saturday to decide a way to compensate domestic players. The other members are Saurashtra’s Jaydev Shah, Karnataka’s Santosh Menon, Assam’s Devajit Saikia, Bengal’s Avishek Dalmiya, Uttar Pradesh’s Yudhvir Singh and Delhi’s Rohan Jaitley.

With regards to the compensation issue, Azharuddin said: “At the moment I can’t comment. I need to find out the details first. I really don’t know how we should calculate the amount for last year in which almost no cricket was played. I am sure the BCCI will look into the matter in detail so that the cricketers would benefit.”
Meanwhile, Jaydev told PTI on Sunday that compensation should be given to cricketers of all age groups: “A time frame has not been set yet but I feel compensation, whatever the amount may be, should be given to all age-group cricketers.”
