Australia`s star batsman Steve Smith finds it challenging to play the role of opener in the Test but is eager to turn it around after going through a rough patch. Smith raised his hand up to fill in the vacant space after David Warner`s retirement.

The move was indeed surprising since it diverted from the policy of appointing specialists for the opening role including Cameron Bancroft, Matthew Renshaw and Marcus Harris.
