Rajkot:: With the Supreme Court expected to come up with their verdict in the Justice RM Lodha committee's recommendations to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) case today, the Board's most experienced active administrator, Niranjan Shah asked, "Why single out cricket?"
"You can't just single out cricket. You should make rules and regulations for any sphere in life, not only for cricket. Yes, we are a popular body, but we are like other sporting associations as well," Rajkot-based Shah told mid-day while watching the Mumbai vs Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy semi-final yesterday. While dwelling on Sharad Pawar's recent resignation as president of the Mumbai Cricket Association, he said, "It may be his (Pawar) personal decision, but anyone can get frustrated with this type of atmosphere. We don't know what tomorrow has in store for us. We (administrators) are all very frustrated. What wrong have we done, we don't know."
Shah (72), the head of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, felt the one state, one vote and 70-year age cap for administrators as recommended by the Lodha Panel are major concerns for the BCCI. "Again, why single out cricket in the age restriction? What is the basis of this 70-year age cap? "And, what is this cooling off period regulation? BCCI is already following a three-year term for its administrators," he stressed.
The veteran administrator realised that it could be curtains for the likes of him soon. Whatever the Supreme Court rules, we will have to obey. We realise that our fate is the hands of the Supreme Court," he concluded.
