Liverpool boss Arne Slot lamented his team’s defensive performance after the reigning champions suffered a 1-2 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday — their first defeat in the English Premier League this season.
“Against Newcastle [a 3-2 win for Liverpool], we conceded two set-pieces and they were the only two chances they might have had in that game. Today, they [Crystal Palace] had more than only two set-piece goals. They didn’t score more, but they had chances from open play, from transition. So, there were more things not to like today than only defending set-pieces. The good thing was that in the other moments Alisson saved us. But if one team deserved to win today, it was Palace,” said Slot. The Dutch manager was also left annoyed by the manner in which Crystal Palace scored the winner in the final minute of stoppage time.
